CBD oil and medical marijuana have taken the organic and alternative medicine world by a storm. As more movements push for complete legalization, more studies are popping up about how CBD oil can be a major game-changer for how we handle chronic illnesses (both mental and physical). Some of the lingering confusions with regards to CBD oil is that the name suggests it is directly linked to cannabis, and can be equated to the recreational use of marijuana.
However, this has been established as not being true. CBD oil that is produced from uncontaminated hemp has very low levels of THC (the element that creates a “high” feeling when consuming cannabis). As a result, the way it affects the mammalian brain is completely different from how marijuana does. The reports from the World Health Organization (WHO) state that the usage of pure CBD (like the one we have at Seabedee) has not yet shown any public health related issues. Moreover, there are no known effects of abuse or dependence potential.
But what does it actually do to the brain? CBD oil is known to alleviate symptoms of pain, inflammation, bone disease, insomnia, anxiety, seizures, and even some types of cancers. When a chemical is ingested and comes in contact with the bloodstreams, it interacts with neurons and receptors in the brain. Cannabinoids are very quick to attach to receptors. CBD oil has been known to interact with two very significant ones in mammalian brains.
One of the receptors is the one associated with pain and inflammation. The interaction causes the consumer to feel pain relief and reduced inflammation – a massive help to those suffering from chronic pain or conditions like arthritis. The other receptor that CBD oil interacts with are the receptors associated with serotonin production. Serotonin is the neurotransmitter responsible for causing emotions of happiness. As a result, CBD oil has been important in alleviating symptoms of depression, anxiety, and insomnia.
Another interaction that CBD oil has exhibited is the way it behaves with epilepsy patients. Epilepsy patients often show abnormal movement of sodium between cells. This is what causes seizures, when the brain cells end up firing incorrectly. The study by researchers at Indiana University showed that CBD can help regulate and normalize the movement of sodium, which can help reduce and minimize seizures among those who suffer from them.
