Cbd – What You Need To Know About Dosage

You’ve probably read about the many health benefits of CBD. If you haven’t, you can read more about them on our earlier blog post here! Now that you know of the benefits of CBD oil and CBD products, how do you establish what the right dose is for you?

Health and nutrition supplements come with a recommended serving size, and so, CBD based nutritional supplements also come with a suggested serving size. However, the US Food and Drug Administration has still not established any formal guidelines for CBD products so there isn’t any official CBD serving size.

So what is the right dose of CBD? The short answer: there isn’t one. CBD dosages don’t work as a one-size-fits-all. There are certain factors to take into consideration when deciding the dose, and there is a certain element of trial and error involved as well.

Estimating The Dose

The first step is to estimate the dose based on a collection of factors: body weight, intensity of condition, concentration of CBD in the product, and form of consumption of CBD.

Individuals with more body mass will require a higher dose of CBD. The table below can serve as a beginner chart to understand what dose to start with.

As seen from the chart, weight in itself isn’t enough to determine what the ideal starting dose should be. If the intensity of the condition is high, then the dosage of CBD needs to be adjusted accordingly.

Finally, the concentration of CBD and the form of consumption are important to note. While insomnia could be treated with an oral supplement, arthritic pain could be treated with a topical cream.

Increase Dose Gradually

Don’t decide dosage based on someone else’s consumption, even if you are physically the same height and weight. Everyone has a unique body chemistry. It is important to start with a low dose and then gradually build it up to understand what the best dose will be.

Consult A Physician

In times of doubt, it is best to seek the advice of a physician who will be able to guide you best regarding the dosage of CBD that is right for you.

Calculating Dosage Consumed

With all the information about how much CBD to consume, it can still be difficult to effectively calculate how much CBD is actually being consumed. How can you tell how many puffs of a CBD vape to take or just how many drops of CBD tincture to take?

  • Tinctures and oils: These usually come in dropper bottles with a packaging that specifies how much CBD is in the bottle. Approximate one single drop of the oil to be 0.05mL, and calculate the CBD content using this approximation. So a 10mL bottle (or 200 drops) with 1000mg of CBD means each drop has 5mg of CBD. This is not entirely accurate but it is better to start with this than have nothing to go on at all.
  • Vape liquid: To measure this, once again estimate how much CBD is present in a single drop or in the entire dropper. With this information, keep an eye on how much CBD goes in one tank and how many times that tank needs to be refilled in the day. With regular monitoring, this will help establish what dose of CBD is being consumed by vaping.
  • CBD oral supplements: Capsules, edibles, gummies, and beverages make it very easy to establish how much CBD is being consumed. The dosage specified on these items is usually accurate and allows you to know exactly how much CBD you are consuming. It doesn’t get easier than this!
